What is Newspapers in Education? |
|
Newspapers in Education (NIE) is a national program that was developed to promote and increase our children's literacy by using the newspaper as an effective teaching tool. Through the NIE program, Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers distributes over 1 million newspapers to local classrooms every year at no cost to students, teachers, or schools. NIE is a unique way for schools, businesses, and Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers to work together in a partnership that benefits all of us - now and in the future. With NIE, students get an up-to-the-minute "living textbook" delivered to their classroom everyday. The use of newspapers in classrooms helps to improve literacy, math, science, and geography skills and helps create a lasting connection between students and their local community.

Sponsorship Opportunities are available for these NIE programs |
ADOPT-A-CLASS - Each school year local teachers request newspapers to incorporate into their daily classroom curriculum. The Adopt-A-Class program allows businesses and individuals to choose a local school to sponsor. Through these sponsorships, newspapers are provided at no cost to teachers and schools.
EDUCATIONAL PUBLICATIONS - Through business partnerships, NIE produces tabloid-sized educational booklets (tabs). These printed materials are provided to schools, used in the classroom and given to students to take home. Businesses, non-profits and municipalities have effectively used these custom publications to reach their communities. Educational content may be purchased print-ready or original content can be created for a custom project.
